Parthenon west facade pillars instrumentation

Parthenon’s West facade is undergoing partial dismantling for inspection and restoration purposes from August 2011. The monitoring task was the strain and displacement measurement of the NorthWest and SouthWest columns during the removal of the western facade. CRD designed a system of fifty two FBG sensors which were fitted on the above columns. The sensors’ network provided measurements of excellent accuracy without damaging the marbles.
